What is electromagnetic induction?

Electromagnetic induction is the production of an electromotive force (emf) in a conductor whenever the magnetic flux linked with it changes.
The working
Discovery
Discovered by Michael Faraday, it shows that a changing magnetic field can create (induce) an electric current in a nearby closed circuit.
Faraday's law
The induced emf equals the rate of change of magnetic flux, e = −dΦ/dt. A faster change in flux produces a larger emf.
Lenz's law
The negative sign shows the induced current always opposes the change in flux that produced it, which is a consequence of conservation of energy.
Ways to induce emf
Flux can be changed by moving a magnet near a coil, changing the current in a nearby coil, or rotating a coil in a magnetic field.
Applications
It is the working principle of generators, transformers, induction motors and inductors.
