Definition
Resistance is the property of a conductor that opposes the flow of charge through it. It arises from collisions of electrons with the atoms of the conductor.
From Ohm's law
Resistance (R) = potential difference (V) ÷ current (I). A conductor has one ohm resistance if one volt drives one ampere through it.
Factors
It increases with the length of the conductor and decreases with larger cross-sectional area, and also depends on the material and temperature.
Unit
The SI unit of resistance is the ohm, denoted by the symbol Ω.
